My Old Man (or Da 2) :¬)

I don't know why he is so much more in my thoughts this week, and things keep popping up, pictures, people, places, smells.

I happened upon this video by accident tonight, and though I know the song from The Furey Brothers, I had never heard this version, or even heard of this wonderful singer, and it is too beautiful not to share. I don't think I could ever manage to sing this song, not the whole way through anyway.

  1. Yes, I can see it being very emotional to sing... for anyone who has lost their father. It's beautiful. xoxoxo

  3. Ah mate, that brought a tear to my eye--
I suppose I am very lucky that I had forewarning of my fathers death and told him everything that I needed to say.
I have so many of his tools that I am often talking to him

  4. Oh, for cryin' out loud, Map, it's 7:00 and I've a tear in my eye... Had to actually stop it toward the end as it was getting undignified at my desk.

My father is a wonderful man with some wonderful flaws, and I don't look forward to missing him.

  5. Too be honest pal, I thought it was cheesey. I believe you hit the nail on the head when you said you couldn't sing it all the way through. So how did he manage it then?

Grand song, cheesey singer, who at one point I actually believed would turn into Daniel. If you sang it, then it would be done with feeling. Not your man though.

  6. "And he'd show me things not known to kings,a secret between him and me, like the colours of the pheasent,as she rises in the dawn,
and how to fish and make a wish, beside the holy tree." Everyone should have such a father. Sure is evident how much he misses his. Beautiful.

  7. Lovely tune with a sentiment I share. :)

Was he holding a blackthorn cane? I ask because I bought one for Hubby at Christmas for days when his knee won't behave and the ground rumbles. ;)
