Tonight I sang this song for the first time in public. Twice.
It's a song that has always been close to my heart.
A song about the homeland, where Granda Stewart came from.
I have a very strong calling to Scotland (Caledonia).
Maybe that's why I love playing the pipes, and it's my excuse for wearing a kilt!!
And my excuse for loving Glasgow, and a certain ugly heided friend!
This version of the song is sung by THE MOST Irish woman I know.
And in my opinion, she OWNS this song! The lovely Dolores Keane.
Enjoy!
shivers doon ma spine mate. Me sitting here in sunny Florda drinking a dram or four and thinking aboot ma homeland. Ta very much Map.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Sausage.....
That's a beautiful song, Map! And the video footage... looks like a place I would truly love to visit! Thanks so much!!! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteAye, tis Map's Musical Morning here today. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely!
like it, though cannae get away from Frankie Miller's version. Where was that big hoose? Don't recognise it at all.
ReplyDeleteThe RSDG did a great version of this song as well. Beautiful. How did it feel to perform it?
ReplyDeleteAlso, want to feel your heart clench like its in a (strangely pleasant) vice? Look for Eddi Reader's version of Auld Lang Syne. Gets me every time.
Brings tears to glass eye. I feel quite homesick now.
ReplyDeleteGood god man, surely all Glaswegians are not ugly? I once new a very handsome man, well if you squinted and dimmed down the lights of course. I'm sure tramlines and chib marks are very fetching in certain quarters.
ReplyDeleteNice rendition, I shall be sure to pass along your sentiments to an old friend.
cannot tell you how i love this song, map, and all that it means - and it's especially been on my mind of late - beautiful - and that you sang it!! perhaps you would be so kind as to honor us with your own video of the performance? :)
ReplyDeleteoh, and you notice the timing, do you not, sir, of the matter about which we spoke earlier? i told you i heard wings overhead just recently, did i not? ;) and so, i did - the proof is in the sentimental pudding, so to speak - and our world is a bit brighter for it! ;)
Lovely song beautifully sung. And doesn't she look great in a dress?

PurestGreen; I felt very proud but nervous singing it the first time, but when I did it again at the end of the gig I had a blast, and most of the crowd sang along!
ReplyDeleteI have listened to Eddi singing many times on YT. And yes, that wonderful lassie gets to me every time. She really does sing from the soul! :¬)
