If You Build It, They Will Fill It With Stuff!

I've always been convinced that people are obsessed with putting stuff in/on any available space. Even if they have no stuff to hand, when they see an empty vessel, or bare table/clear worktop, or floor void of furniture, they will go and search for stuff to put in/on said space!

I have commented on this to Mrs. Map and all the Maplettes on numerous occasions, but they all reply with the usual 'ptfft'! (Dad on one of his missions again!)

So this evening, before I left for my gig, I put an empty bread basket on top of the microwave oven. Upon my return it contained TWO cameras, a Calculator, a Bracelet, two Dress Rings, a pair of headphones, a keyring and half a bag of Hulahoops (a spud based snack!)

I rest my case! (Remember, I am the only male in a family of five!) :¬)

  3. In my defence, who is always saying "The kitchen scales are NOT a storage unit." Don't lump me in with the rest of them.

  4. @ Kate: Don't make me laugh. Nice try. Not only are you in with the rest of them, I suspect you're the ringleader.

Map: Nice work turning your family into a science project. Well done, sir. You proved a good point.

  5. Ah but in my case it's HUBBY who does that! I once put a basket on the dining room table in order to round up the assortment of really odd odds and ends he carries in his pockets...our poor washing machine! By the time I came back into the room, he'd already filled it up and none of the stuff on the table was in the basket!

Ah, the things we do for love. ;)

  6. Tis true! Is there not a law of nature that says "Nature abhors a vacuum"..? I think this means that if you insist on putting new baskets around the place, you're going to have to buy new Stuff to fill them with too!
    Happy New Year!

  7. I hope you sold them all on eBay and made some money as well as proving a point :)

Hope you have a wonderful Hogmanay, but before celebrations get underway, you still have time to pop over and pick up a Rambling Beard award :)

  8. two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree!!! ;)

oh, dear dear map - 'tis not only you with this observation and dilemma - having raised five children, i, too, know only too well that whole phenomena of "filling the space, any space, every space" - and now that i am all grown up and live alone [well, i live alone, anyway], whenever the attempt is made by one of them, and/or one of theirs, the result is that whomever is very apt to lose permanently any such object used to "fill" my empty spaces - you leave it, you lose it! that's my motto now!!! and you'd be surprised how quickly this little behavior modification program works! let's see, there were the new tennis shoes, the bracelet, the lacrosse equipment, backpack, the list goes on.....now, i just sit back and listen to the whispers "no, man, don't put anything in there, you know she'll get rid of it!" - and they're right! "she" will! ;)

peace and love and all things red in 2011 for you and mrs map and all the maplettes!!!
