Changing Rooms.

This week I am mostly painting.
And wallpapering.
For my children are getting older.
And swopping rooms.
And what once was cute, is now 'OMG'! I can't believe I picked that colour!'
And one's children want a more 'mature' look.
One wants 'Brown walls, and a pink Georgian wallpaper on one wall, with a chandelier'!?
And another wants 'All white, mainly, minimalist like, but with MEGA multicoloured stripes on a contrast wall'!?
The other one couldn't care less. She's off to college in a few weeks. Hence the frenzy in room swop!
At the moment my house looks like a badly organised jumble sale!
Chaos!
That's not good for my brain.
My brain likes order.
I fear I may be BORG!

(Or just old & grumpy?)

Resistance IS futile!

  1. You might consider padding on a couple of those walls so you don't damage your head whilst banging it against them.

  3. Is this what I have in store for myself?! Is this what multiple daughters do to a man? On second thought, don't tell me. I'd rather you not spoil the surprise.

  4. This year we painted the kid's room white, put up about a thousand shelves and left the rest up to her. Eighty percent of the wall space is back to back horse posters.. the rest is taken up with books... I'm hoping to not have to worry about decorating again for a few years now :-)

  5. It must be such fun with daughters.
I think I was a rotten mother; my younger son who had a large double bedroom to himself pleaded to have the small dressing room instead and painted black. Mum said NO!

  6. You have three daughters?... So do I.
    You have my deepest sympathy.
Just nod and say 'yes dear' to everything they say.

  7. I am just contemplating a room redo for my "big" rising 4th grader, who now has a lot of hair accessories and earrings to accomodate on addition to the hundreds of books and the toys...

  11. Enjoy the pandemonium Mr Mapstew, the nest can be a very lonely place when all the young birds have flown. You have paint on your chin by the way.

  12. Every room in my house is painted the same colour---an off white---double tint to the skirtings and a half tint to the ceilings.
But they all look diferent just by decoration.
    Makes painting a lot easier

  14. oh, dear mapstew, if i were just able to fly cross the pond right now, i would come lend a hand - i cannot tell you the number of walls i have painted in my stint as a parent of 4 daughters and 1 son - the dilemma increased in intensity if two happened to have to share the same room - dear heavens! but, all things said, it was a time i cherish still as i know you do and will! and another indicator of what a hip dad you must be to know all about so many of a girl's little pretties and necessities! :)

  16. Warden; In truth I like a full busy house, the place is often heaving with hungry teenagers. (They all seem to like meself & Mrs. Map, we've been told we're cool!) We will quite possibly move when the nest is finally empty.

Yes, I do have paint on me chin, and other places! :¬)

Clyde; Sounds like a nice gaff! Keep the spare room ready, ya never know when a 'Paddy' might show up! :¬)

  17. GYPSYWOMAN; Thank you kindly for the offer!

I can't imagine what it must have been like for your son, so many sisters! I was blessed with 5 brothers and 2 sisters! (Typical small Irish family!) :¬)

  18. Can't you rope them in to help? I have stared at these walls for years and continually decide to repaint next month. I expect this to last for some time.

  19. Madame DF; Oh they are helping, they are moving stuff around and pinting out the parts I miss with paint! No, they are helping, and enjoying it, and making me enjoy it! In all honesty, we are all having a lot of fun at the moment!

(Have you met the 'Warden'?) :¬)
