friends

Just home from performing at a club as my duo outfit TAT2. We play quite an eclectic mix, depending on the audience. I like to surprise people by going from say,a ska song into something quite traditional. It gets their attention.
People often ask what I prefer to sing, what my favourite genre is, but to be honest I just love to sing. Tonight I went from pop to country to rock n roll to a blues song I made up on the spot. I love singing, entertaining, seeing folk having a good time. I love to entertain.
I had a guest to the mic tonight, Patrick, celebrating his 86th birthday. He sang two songs and was the highlight of the night. I hope I am still as lively at his age.
Have a grand weekend my friends, I love you all near and far, those of you I meet daily and you friends I have yet to meet. I raise a glass tonight to one and all, but especially to my big brother JB. Slainte a chara agus oiche mhaith.

  1. Wonderful. My Gia is a singer and she's gotten back into performing out in public once again recently. Watching her on stage belt out some songs is my favorite thing in the entire world. I can't wait for her next gig.

    Slainte.

    1. It's free therapy....and hopefully for the audience too! :-)

  2. Whatever you do keep singing Maurcheen.
It is so true of the voice - use it or lose it. I mourn for my singing voice

    1. I intend to keep singing for as long as I can Pat. I lost my voice for a while about ten years ago...it just refused to work, right in the middle of a gig. Luckily, with voice training and quitting the fags, it eventually returned. I have a wee studio at home and I try to sing most days. :-)

  3. I used to love going to pub gigs to watch my saxophone teacher perform - lots of ska and pop... sometimes I was allowed to do backing vocals....at closing time... to clear the pub.

  4. Does that annoy you when someone wants to take the mic from you and "sing?" (Most people who do that, can't.)

    1. Usually...yes. Because it's almost always somebody drunk who wants to sing, and I don't hand over my very expensive radio-mic to drunk folk. But this guy was sober, fun, 86 and good. :-)
