Songs Sales & Storms

I've often tried to work out exactly how many songs I sing at a wedding or other such function. We normally do a three hour set, but if the crowd is good it can be a task to stop us. I reckon we do 60/70 on average, but I know I have done over 100 at some good ones. There was a time, long ago, when a little singing fella could keep it going all night (and sing as well!). It's been a busy Christmas, folk still love a good wedding! I've been staving off that feckin' head cold with pill and potion galore to keep me in respectable singing voice, and it worked. But now 'tis comin' to claim me. I don't mind, and I'm not complaining, there are far more people worse off than I. I'm enjoying the fruits of a single pot still made into a 'medicine' with a few cloves, lemon, a little hot water and demerara sugar. I'm enjoying many if truth be told, and the fugginess is delicious.

I took the youngest and her cousin, along with Mrs. M., on a shopping expedition to Dublin yesterday. (Two hour drive each way.) Shopping is not my favourite thing. (Can you guess what is? NO Jimmy, that's just a pastime!) Having been out gigging 'til the wee hours the previous three nights did not help my demeanour. But my girls had a ball. I carried bags, stood outside shops, smiled , oohed & aahed in all the right places and got everybody home in one piece. Them January sales can be a bastid!

There's a storm blowing in from the Atlantic again tonight. I still haven't repaired the fences from last weeks storm. The gazebo took flight into our next door neighbours garden, thankfully not causing any damage on it's trip. No sign of any sheep!

One of the daughters gave me a new (much needed) wallet as a christmas pressie. It is a fine wallet, and much appreciated. Why am I finding it hard to part with my old worn bedraggled wallet which has moulded itself into the shape which fits so comfortably against my upper right thigh?

I wish you all health, safe shores and happiness in the coming year.

  1. You're a good man to take your girls shopping so patiently, Map. And that storm that's heading your way just might be the tail end of the Alberta clipper that has been bedevilling us with cold, snow and wind over here in Canadia. The entire country has been colder than normal. Hopefully it won't wallop you with what hit us. Nasty, is all I can say. And we're not clear yet. I drove home after work in high winds blowing snow all over the roads, making for poor visibility and high slipperiness! They say we will get 5 - 10 cm of the white stuff in the next 24 hours. I'm done with winter, I tell ya!

I've heard many men find it difficult to switch to a new wallet. If you did it as often as we women switch purses, it wouldn't be hard to do at all!

Wishing you and your bevvy of fine ladies all the best of everything this year and always. xoxoxo

  2. It is a nasty storm. I woke up to thunder and lightning... but now I see that the sun is trying to break through.... whether it will succeed is another matter!

  3. Och, what pish indeed! The story that came my way in regard to your shopping expedition, was that the girls were wanting away home after little more than their usual 6 hours shopping, but you sir, you carried on until the last shop had closed. I'm seeing photies of many frilly shirts, stacks of lacey undies and far too many pairs of high heeled shoes. The girls also bought a lot of stuff too.

And for the record... your favourite pastime is collecting coupons, spying on your neighbour across the road with a telescope, and of course, dressmaking with sequins. As for the poor bedraggled oul wallet story, I nearly spat my gold when I read that, it's never been opened in a month of Sundays!!!

As for the voice... let's hope the cold weather continues in order for so many of the neighbourhood cats to finally get a good nights sleep.

    1. And you wonder where Siobhán gets your hand-made, monogrammed undercrackers from? Who knew turquoise & lemon were your favourite colours?

  4. Good to know that you got rid of that awful cold and you're alive and kicking, winging and shopping. ;)

Grandmas remedies are excellent for common ailments.

  5. Time is cold, rainy and windy too in the South Sandwich Islands. But unlike your fellow bloggers, we like to stare at the rain falling because we don't get much of that over here.

PS.- You've earned a place in heaven organising that shopping expedition, dear. I may hire you to carry my bags someday ;)

  6. Sounds exhausting. I may be one of the few females on the planet who hates shopping. Then again, when one is built low to the ground and nothing fits....

    Feel better soon my friend!
