Alan Stivell

Once, when I was a wee young teenage thug bagpiper, I shared a stage with this genius of celtic music, (in France!). I also shared a dinner with him after the concert, he sat on my left, I was in a state of total AWE! My friends had never heard of him, and thought he was just this guy with the weird harp and even weirder eyes! I knew him as a Megastar! (I had, and still have a lot of his stuff on vinyl)!

  1. There's nothing like a good "Brush with Celebrity" bedtime story. The song was a bonus!

  2. Stirring stuff!
Re bagpipes my gardener told me one of her clients is the most famous bagpipe maker in the world (Minehead is famous for it) Oddly he's a cockney.

  4. I heard someone playing bagpipes yesterday when out riding my bike. I think they were inside a house, as it was fairly quiet, but lovely to hear, all the same. And no, it wasn't a recording... whoever it was, was practicing stuff. No squished cat sounds either, so they knew what they were doing! ;-)

  5. What an incredible group, Map, and I can understand why you were awed.

Whatever you do, hang on to your vinyl recordings. Not only for the pleasure of them, but they are also worth their weight in gold.

  7. UB; It's not like I'm related to Bruce (thru marriage) or anything like! :¬)

Pat; Not only a difficult instrument to master, but I reckon one must be a highly skilled craftsman to make a set! :¬)

Pon; Nothing like pipes being played by a skilled piper. Also, NOTHING like pipes being played by an unskilled piper! :¬)

  9. Charlie; I treasure my vinyl! It's in the attic with my Chippindale furniture and my early Monet's! (And a couple of Manet's!) :¬)

Pearl; I have to say, my life, if not entertaining, is certainly entertainment!
(I will tell more, soon!) :¬)

  10. There are 3 or 4 pages of Alan Stivell recordings on Amazon.com, but about 3 are available. I downloaded his "Masters" album and I love it.
