We were in the kitchen at home.
You were doing the ironing, and we were playing a game.
I had to choose a word, and you would try to sing a line of a song with that word in it.
'These 'BOOTS' are made for walkin',
'Put your 'HEAD' on my shoulder',
'Every night I sit here by your 'WINDOW'.
I think I must have been very young, 'cos I remember playing on the floor, and looking up at you. (Or was I looking up TO you!)
Doing the ironing, and singing. And playing games with me.
And there was just the two of us.
(There may have been other kids in the room, I don't know, but they are not in this memory.)
Every time I iron a shirt for a gig I find myself in that lovely memory.
I don't have a gig tonight,
But I think I'll Iron a few shirts anyway.
Our Helen (my Big Sis) is gone a year today.
you have my heart, bubba! i might do some ironing tonight, too. xoxoxoxoxo

Ah, Map... big hugs, hon... Helen is with you always in your heart.
ReplyDeleteYesterday would have been my sister's birthday... hard to believe it's almost 5 years...
It's very surreal, isn't it? And unreal...

It never bloody stops. That's what I'm finding. A year is NOTHING.
ReplyDeleteKeep the good memories!
What a lovely way to remember your sister and keep her memory alive.
ReplyDeleteCareful with the ironing - my burn is still healing.
What lovely memories - I feel warmed by them xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a post! All that sweet memory and then *POW!* that last line. That woke my ass up this early Wednesday morning. All salute Helen.
ReplyDeleteMap, the great thing about family is they never really leave you, whether in the other room or looking down fae above. Keep on keeping on... get your ass stateside and the first round is on me. (Plenty gigs here in Florida)
ReplyDeleteCheers, Sausage.
Anniversaries are always tough, but you honour her with your memories
