Waking Up Is Hard Too. True!

Words by Faithless.

But as Meatloaf is wont to sing;
'They took the words right out of my mouth'!

Deep in the bosom of the gentle night
Is when I search for the light
Pick up my pen and start to write
I struggle, fight dark forces
In the clear moon light
Without fear... insomnia
I can't get no sleep

I used to worry, thought I was goin' mad in a hurry
Gettin' stress, makin' excess mess in darkness
No electricity, something's all over me, greasy
Insomnia please release me and let me dream of
Makin' mad love to my girl on the heath
Tearin' off tights with my teeth
But there's no release, no peace
I toss and turn without cease
Like a curse, open my eyes and rise like yeast
At least a couple of weeks
Since I last slept,
kept takin' sleepers
But now I keep myself pepped
Deeper still, that night I write by candle light
I find insight, fundamental movement, uh
So when it's back this insomniac take an original tack
Keep the beast in my nature under ceaseless attack
I gets no sleep
I can't get no sleep

I can't get no sleep
I can't get no sleep
I need to sleep, although I get no sleep
I need to sleep, although I get no sleep

  1. It's almost 2:00 a.m. and still can't get to sleep?! It's time for an AmBien, my friend. Used wisely, it can really help on nights like this.

  2. UB; I was still reading at 4;00a.m. yesterday!
It's been like this for a while now. My head goes into overdrive as soon as it hits the pillow!

(Have to check out AmBien, new to me, don't know if it's available over here. But ta!)

  4. Map, you can also try Gravol (dimenhydrinate) to get sleepy. (It's the stuff you take for nausea.) However, be forewarned that it can leave you a little bit groggy when you wake up. Here it is an OTC drug but have to ask for it as it is kept behind the counter. Doesn't require a prescription here - not sure about there.

I keep a rubber mallet at my bedside for the nights when the hamster in my head won't stop spinning in that wheel. Hope you find something that works! (My mum used to read Agatha Christie mysteries... it worked for her.) xoxoxo

  5. Brother Map,

When I can't sleep it's usually because I'm wired about something; too much juice flowing.

I hope you find a way to relax and allow your body some rest.

  6. You're a Celt for the love of all things unholy. Have you forgotten what whisky was originally intended for?

I keep a large aquarium chock full of unusual fish The tranquility and calm lulls me more than drugs ever could. An expensive hobby, but the rewards of relaxation and sleep is priceless.

A good bottle of something strong, the fish swimming, quiet background music, dimmed lights... it works for me.

  10. Is it something in the air? I was like that last night. Harder I tried to sleep, the more lists my head made. I finally turned on some background noise [an electric fireplace with a quiet fan...looks so darned real it's scary!] and my brain went to sleep.

I feel for you, my friend. I hope the Sand Man visits tonight.

p.s. I've always wanted to say this, and with a beer in my hand, as I am right now, I shall: Slainte! (now you'll have to explain to me how it's pronounced!)

  13. Honestly, if you've been having a hard time sleeping, I recommend both hot baths and melatonin. It's natural, stops the unending, chasing thoughts, and has no hangover.

I don't often sleep well myself. Do what I do: Convince yourself it's a sign of genius.

  14. Pearl; Oh I KNOW I'm a genius, that's the trouble, no one else realises the effing fact!

Now, how to pronounce Slainte! You have to start off with a shush sound, like, well, shush! So it goes 'Shush law n ta' but very fast! Maybe even 'Shlaw in ta'. Yeah that's better! 'Good health to you'!
