Kilt?
This is what got me through adolescence, tormented angst ridden teenage years, and my early twenties!
If it wasn't for the hours of practice every day,
The endless marching,
The constant button and buckle polishing,
The precise ironing of pleats into my kilt and brath,
(I learned a lot from the Da here, and I still iron my own clothes, as he did!)
The immaculate whitening of my spats,
The discipline,
The friendship,
The love of music,
The camaraderie,
Well, I wouldn't be the man I am today.
Later on today I am taking the Youngest to meet with some old friends to see if she would be interested in carrying on the tradition.
I was a piper, though she is definitely drummer material.
Fingers crossed.

How cool would that be if she decides to follow in your footsteps!?!
ReplyDeleteI'll bet you look(ed) very handsome in your kilt... do you still have it? And your pipes?
Thanks for that video... I *love* pipes and drums!
(Let's see what Jimmy has to say about that!)
xoxoxo
Jimmy would say that it is the pride in being a Celt that bangs the drum even louder, and blows the bag even harder.
ReplyDeletePony-doll, are you interested in blowing and banging?
how exciting for both of you, sugar! thanks for the video, y'all know how much i love that sound! ;~D xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI can see how sounds like these galvanized troops. Years ago, I was in Washington DC visiting a friend. We were walking near the National Cathedral late one evening. Out of the mist came the sounds of the pipers. I will never forget it.
ReplyDelete@Jimmy: What hotblooded girl isn't??? ;-)
ReplyDeleteExcellent, I have to go tell another piper about you.
ReplyDeleteI do love it when I learn more about someone in a post. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck to the youngest.
Oh, the undiluted joy of men in kilts. And if they have nice pipes, so much the better. Hope all is well with you.
ReplyDeleteHow awesome is this? I got your link from one of my favorite bloggers, elohssanatahw. I'm learning to play the pipes, and my daughter is learning the tenor drum.
ReplyDeletePam; She met with the guys today and is going to take a few days to decide. She has a "very busy schedule at the moment" for an eleven year old! I thing she might like it though.
ReplyDeleteSorry, donated the uniform & pipes to the band when I quit. Might be able to find some pics though!

Jimmy; Ya can't say better than that pal!
Sav; It's been a while since I played, but I still love the sound. We'll have to wait and see if herself falls for it.
xoxoxo
debra; You either love that sound or hate it. I think it's a joy.

Pon; Ya wanna keep an eye on him, I see someone called Pam has been flirting! (1st comment!)

@eloh; Thanks for the introduction!
hope; Always something new to learn about peeps! I learn more about myself every day.
xxx
Madame DF; You make a fella blush! Though I was well known for my piping skills!
xxx
Aunt Juicebox; A very good piping welcome to you! It's not an easy instrument to master, but with time, practice and dedication, well a person can make a wonderful sound indeed.
Well done to you and your daughter. Come back again.
