A man is still up to his tits in paint and wallpaper paste!
In the meantime, a song for all my friends, but in particular Charlie, just because, and the lovely Gypsywoman, who celebrates her birthday today! (Pop over and give her a kiss!)
This is Christy Moore, backed by Johnny Duhan (from Limerick, and the composer of this wonderful piece.)
Enjoy.
Lovely words.
ReplyDeleteI'll pop over before breakfast - just for you.
Youre enjoying this renovating thing arent you? LOL You DO know whats next dont you?
ReplyDelete"Dad, this old furniure does not match the nice new paint...buy me some more!"
Given your opening sentence, I was reminded of an old song my mum used to sing when we were kids called, "When Father papered the parlour"
ReplyDeleteThe opening lines go like this:
Our parlor wanted papering, and Pa says it was waste
To call the paperhangers in, and so he made some paste.
He got some rolls of paper, a ladder and a brush
And with me Mother’s nightgown on, at it he made a rush.
When Father papered the parlour
You couldn’t see Pa for paste
Dabbing it here and dabbing it there!
There was paste and paper everywhere
Mother was stuck to the ceiling
and the kids were stuck to the floor
You never saw such a blooming family So ’stuck up’ before.
I hope you're going to post before and after pics. Might be interesting to see the work of a real craftsman.
ReplyDeletePaint, I do--thank god that wall paper went out of fashion in Australian modern homes.
ReplyDeleteI hate stripping it and I hate haning it.
Even in our old family home, my dear old dad hated it---the hall was papered with a raised pattern---when it came time to redocorate, dad painted over the paper---nice and fresh and still had a raised patterm
and what a sweetheart you are, painter-minstrel-man! thank you so much for the kind words and thoughts! and lest i forget my good manners still again, please do bring along MRS. painter-minstrel-man to my little celebration tonight! and please forgive my lapse in mentioning that before! see you tonight!
ReplyDeleteoh, and there's a little something for everyone over at my blog of "words unspoken" - to you all from me!
I ALWAYS go to the music you post, Map; and it always blows my mind. :-) What a beautiful voice!
ReplyDeletePearl
You ALWAYS choose the right songs, brother Map. Thanks, as always . . . you brought a tear.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks to Kim for his song: I think he should sing it for us wearing Maggie's nightgown.
Never mind the wallpaper - have you got the chandelier hung yet?
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have a never ending stream of wonderful songs to hand. How refreshing to my ears to share a taste in music with one so young.
ReplyDeletePat; You are good! Hope you had a nice brekkie! :¬)
ReplyDeleteTempo; I was still painting at 8.30pm this evening! (Exterior of house). Have to get it finished before lunch tomorrow, we have a gang arriving about 4pm to see off the eldest to her Deb's Ball! That's me done with decorating for another 10 years! :¬)
Kim; That had me smiling, it sounds vaguely familiar, smells of my own childhood. I'll have to ask Ma if she knows it tomorrow. :¬)
ReplyDeleteUB; No pictures! (I am SO used to saying that!) I barely have time to piss these days, never mind take photies!
(I did actually works as a painter & decorator in a past life!) :¬)
In both our families, we have "artists": both our Moms paint and half the siblings do too. Hubby and I always laughingly answered, "Sure we paint. Walls."
ReplyDeleteMay you soon replace the paintbrush with a microphone. And your "little clients" best remember to give Da a proper hug and kiss. ;)
Clyde; Oh it's back! Retro wallpaper is in with the young'uns over here. Thank fuck they only want one wall of each room papered! My da hated papering as much as I do, I had some great memories of him this week, lots of stories to tell the Youngest as she was helping me.
ReplyDelete(Painting walls I find quite relaxing.) :¬)
GYPSYWOMAN; Keep a couple of spaces, we're on our way, though I've already started on the Merlot! Beware! :¬)

Pearl; Thanks, I just post what I happen to like, glad you enjoyed it. I love singing this one, must record it soon. :¬)

Charlie; I thought of it and you in the same moment. There was also a tear here.
I would pay good money to hear Kim sing the other one, even more if it was in Maggie's dressing gown! Have a good night pal! :¬)
Lulu;We DID buy a chandelier, but none of us could play it! :¬)
ReplyDeleteWarden; It's my job, singing for my supper! And thank you for calling me young. Your name is now on the list for the big bash next June! :¬)
hope; I have been known to put colour on canvas too! Always abstract. Very abstract! But some of them hang on the walls of our little hovel!
ReplyDeleteBack to singing on Saturday, and will be busy with it up til Christmas most weekends. (*family jumping around saying 'Yay, we get to eat real food again'!*) :¬)

just checking in over here to see how the painting and hanging are coming along - all done, i suppose? i know you all must be exhausted from all your domestic bliss you have going on there so i've gathered up a basket of leftover birthday celebration goodies for you to snack on - plus a couple of bottles of wine for your thirst! i just sat the basket by the kitchen door - didn't want to interrupt! ;)
ReplyDeleteGYPSYWOMAN; Thank you kindly, I was wondering where the baket came from. My first thoughts was that it was a foundling!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wonderful campfire party, I think I had a good time. :¬)

BASKET! (What IS a BAKET?)
ReplyDeleteOh, I did all that painting stuff a few weeks ago. In one room, anyway... a lot of work but the results are always pleasing! Hope it's going (gone?) well. And the music is lovely too. It's smokin' hot here (with the humidity, feels like 35C) and I've just cut the grass. I think I'm melting... xoxoxo
ReplyDeletePon; Yes, I think you are feeling a bit hot! Smokin! I don't think it's got anything to do with the weather tho'! :¬)
ReplyDeletexxx
Still painting? What are you doing? Watching it dry? Have a great weekend. Won't think about you when I'm on my hols!
ReplyDeleteMap, just what are you implying, young man???? *grins*
ReplyDeleteMadame DF; I'm a bit of a perfectionist, that's all!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time on yer hols! And bring us back a stick of rock! :¬)
xxx
Pon; The implications are there for all to see dear lady! :¬)

Beautiful singer, good luck with the decorating. Talking abot wallpaper and singing, type this into YouTube for a good laugh 'scottish fans wallpaper song'.
ReplyDeleteWell, Map, things have cooled off on both fronts. Such is life!
ReplyDeleteRyan; I had a wee listen to that! And now it's on a loop in me heid! Thank you for that! :¬)
ReplyDeletePon; Life is a roller-coaster? :¬(
xxx
Ha! I come over here to check on the decorating... just to give me more reasons for not starting on my own..
ReplyDeleteLet me know your hourly rate for painting a hallway won't you?
Macy; How could I charge? I paint for the pure love of it! :¬0
