August 6th 1925

Lucille Ball, my favourite comic actress was 14 years old.
Andy Warhol was 3 years from being born.
The original 'Phantom Of The Opera' starring Lon Chaney, was a hit at the 'movies'.
As was 'The Goldrush' starring the wonderful Charlie Chaplin.
And my Ma was born.
Ma celebrated her 85th birthday in her usual style this weekend, (lots of whiskey!)

I hope to fuck that I have HER genes!

Happy Birthday Ma, I love you, but you know that!

A couple of her faves.

  1. Your mum is my kind of woman...though she'd probably be able to drink me under the table. Best wishes to her Map

  4. what an absolutely fabulous homage to your mom who must be an absolutely fabulous woman, map!!!

many many happy returns to her!

and i must say she is in such good company with all us other absolutely fabulous LEO women! my own birthday comes this wednesday! i'm thinking of throwing a last-minute-planned birthdaybash and i hope you and the gang will all come celebrate with me! the guitars will be strummin' and mandolins jingling - we'll sit round the campfire under the moon, sip deep hearty red wines, nibble on some juicy fruits and heady cheeses, perhaps you'll honor us with a fabulous song and then we'll all dance round and round the fire till mornin' meets the sky - please say you'll come!

again, such a beautiful tribute to your mom - she is a very lucky woman to have a son such as you!

  8. Well I'll be. A charming message from a young man to his mother. Now that is a nice thought.

Best wishes to the lady in question.

  13. Tempo; Thank you, I will pass on your greetings, though the last time I tried to explain 'blogger friends' I think she thought I meant entirely different! And yes, she could drink most of us under the table, I'm still learning! :¬)

UB; She likes a 'wee drop' at night!
I grew up listening to Ma singing these songs, and many many others! :¬)

GYPSYWOMAN; Thank you. Yes, you Leo women have a certain way about you! Looking forward to wednesdays festivities. I promise to sing some Lenny! :¬)

  15. Okay, I'm late but I had an excuse.

There was a HUGE thunderstorm Friday night...um, that would be Ma's birthday...hmmm. It knocked out power for a while. It also knocked out my internet until Sunday morning.

Storm...Or maybe Ma just had that wild a party. :)

    Happy Birthday to Ma!

  19. Charlie; Thanks pal, I will be sure to pass it on! :¬)

Madame DF; She's at the age now where if she does have a hangover, (very rare, and not because she doesn't drink that often!) she just stays in bed 'til she feels like getting up! :¬)

  23. Ryan; She says if they dig her up in a hundred years they'll think she's a saint, she be that well preserved from the whisk(e)y!

(Ma sounds quite like Marlene, especially after a dram!) :¬)
