  1. It's miserable here too. I'm packing my bags to stay with Ponita. And I might light my fire later.

  4. oh, so today you're having our yesterday! and what a miserable lot it was - had me feelin' all melancholy and misty! but you've obviously battened down the hatches with all that matters - your divine menu sounds as if it came right straight out of the deep south here - pure unadulterated ever-lovin' comfort! thanks for the invite - i'm headed that way now - with a big bottle under each arm and a big batch of my famously delicious hot water cornbread!

  5. Sorry if I've been gloating about the fantastic weather at my place, but we've had 8 summers of cold and wet so this one is a dream! And given that it will be -30C within a couple months or so, well, I'm sure you understand. ;-)

Comfort food.... ah, there's nothing better, except your lovely company to share it with. We could have a party at your place, Stew, with great good and all the bloggers! Then no one will care what the weather is doing! xoxoxo

  6. I'd completely enjoy the horrible monsoons here if we had that kind of amazing food to go with it. I think I like the Irish approach to dealing with bad weather :D

  7. Mmmm .... what time is supper?
Comfort food on chilly days is also food for my soul.
I made a baked chicken and rice casserole for our cool day.

    Enjoy ....

  8. Parsnips! people actually eat them by choice? I only remember them from my childhood when I hated them with a vengeance but still had to eat them. The rest of it sounds great though Map. It's sometimes too cold for me here in South Australia...I just cant imagine how cold it must get in your neck of the woods.

  9. @Tempo: If you think Ireland gets too cold, you should try coming to the middle of the Canadian Prairies in January... hehehe!

  14. Tempo; Parsnips are wonderful, you just have to know what to do with them. Today I boiled them in stock, drained, mashed with butter & black pepper, transferred to little ramekins and baked in the oven for 20 mins 'til they were golden on top. Sweetest thing! I also roast whole small parsnips with honey & orange juice!

Weather? We rarely get extremes of any kind! :¬)

    Pon; BRRRRRRRRRRR! :¬)

  15. I won't complain as today was tolerable weather wise...pollen wise we don't wish to discuss.

Ah, comfort food. There's nothing better! Sending warm, sunshiny thoughts your way.

  17. Man, I WISH I could come over. It's miserable here, too, pal. First a hurricane and now the remnants of a tropical storm are passing over. So much water! It can't go on forever.

    Can it?

  18. I'm laughing as when I replied last night, Hubby was in the kitchen as he'd prepared dinner while I was at work. When he yelled for me to walk away from the computer and eat, I found a pot of vegetable soup!

It's my favorite Fall comfort food! Can you smell it? The pot's back on the stove. ;)

  20. Wish I lived closer!

Did you pick the blackberries yourself? It's an annual ritual in our house for me to take the kids out "bramble hunting".

  21. Count me in please. You never know who may turn up.
Don't be too hard on the weather. As my late SIL used to say 'That's why the Brits have such beautiful skins.'

  22. Kim; Our blackberries have about another week or so before they're ready, but yes, we will be bramble hunting, practically on our doorstep! :¬)

Pat; You see the silver lining where others see the cloud!

I'll set another couple of places then! :¬)
